lockout?

Yeah, I hate it when I leave the keys in my 750 and lock the doors.   :D

I'm assuming that's either referring to "other off-road vehicles" or lost keys.

or maybe you lose your keys and aren't the kind of person who can hotwire a motorcycle?

So I found a bike just like this one (same color too) for a good price ($5,500).  A 2008 CBR 600RR.  I specifically like that year (or 2007), because they have more hp, less weight, and are thinner than the previous years.

Man, I'd like to have a nice daily rider that I wouldn't always have to worry about (like it sitting in the rain, or sun, or theft, or getting knocked over, etc.).  You guys know what I mean, after you've put so much time/work/money into something.  I'd be scared to leave my K2 sitting in a parking lot day in and day out.

But...
I'm afraid I might like it too much... might prefer it over the K2.  I might turn into a douche bag.

So either I break down and get one of these (that I've been thinking about for a long long time now (when did I start this thread...)), OR... I just learn to not worry so much about my K2.

Decisions, decisions....    :-\

Just get a beater SOHC4.. My 350 looks like crap, I never clean it, ride it everywhere, rain, snow, salt. I don't think anyone would bother with stealing it. My other SOHC's are in much nicer shape and i worry about them more.

you could get a gorilla bike alarm. it's pretty small. I got one when I lived in west oakland and had no garage. it'll go off if someone takes it off the kickstand(tilt) or if the ignition is messed with. and you can adjust the general sensitivity. they make an optional pager that will let you know what's goin on with your bike from up to a couple miles away. like in a theater or something where you wouldn't hear the alarm.

then you can run out and throw your $10 movie soda in his face and all the acid in the coca cola will burn the skin right off. then you rub the salty popcorn in and he's learned a real lesson. you still have your bike and say 'thanks gorilla'.

I had a CBR600F4i last year and I loved it with all of my being. Things got tough so I had to sell her. She was a fast bitty though. I picked her up for free, yes free. Except for the $25 it cost me to rent the trailer to go get her. Friend said it needed too much work and I could have it if it was gone by the end of the week. I didn't pass it up, how could I? All kinds of FUEL INJECTED insanity!

Repaired the crankcase with JB weld, replaced the battery and stator and rode the piss out of her for several months. Saved a ton gas since my regular vehicle is a V8 F150. Sold her for $3300 after putting $600 in.

If you can find a great deal I say go for it. I am tame on a sport bike and wheelies are not my thing but they are fun just the same.

Two wheels, TOO FUN!

Thanks for the tip on the alarm (and the defense response tactics), greasyj.  I'll definitely check into it for the K2.  I hadn't heard of them before.

Yes, I've never ridden a crotch rocket, so I'm looking forward to the day when I finally see for myself how much 30+ years have advanced motorcycles.  I can only imagine they'd be a lot of fun.

I messed around for years trying to find a reason to get a 600rr, just like you.
My better half finally told me to get the damn thing and stop whining about it ;D
You won't regret it once you do it. I bought mine brand new. If you're interested, I'll post a pic when I get back to my own computer. It looks right at home next to the k5...

You will not believe the difference. I like the old stuff and all but it can NEVER compare to a modern super sport. You twist the throttle and it goes fast. NOTHING is like that, nothing. A newish CBR1000 will do more than 100 in first before it hits the limiter, if you keep the front end down. It also handles, they feel practically neutral and they brake. I take that back as they dont brake, they STOP. They are also dead reliable, you might replace an alternator but the bikes are usually wrecked by then. Average life span is only 4500 miles due to the fact that a sizeable portion of the people that get them pretty much idiots. Chad Bro chill dont need a helmet brah' And if your into the technology at all its insane how they get so much reliable power out of such small displacement. Second set of injectors in the airbox, variable length intake velocity stacks...

It may suck that the valves take 6 hours to adjust, but you only have to do it every what? 15000 miles?

As someone I once knew said, "Sh!ts a different game, son."  ;D

Just sayin'

   This pretty much sums it up.   76' CB592 cafe. 69 750 project, 03 CBR954, 75 750 super sport.

400 bucks is a steal. you could sell the parts to people on here who need the stuff, for a really good price, and still make a profit for your hassle. I think.

I think I already mentioned this a long ways back on this thread, but I really dig my CBR. it's only a 89, but it's my first bike newer than 70-somethin. it's mega-ultra-extreme fun to ride. I got it for $1500 and it only had 9000 miles. it's not too hard to find a deal like that cuz a lot of people don't ride their bikes. i know, crazy huh?

Hey!  That looks just like the one I just bought.   ;D

I finalize the deal sometime this week.  The seller's going to pay off the loan, get the title, and then I'll hand over the cash and ride it home.  Can't wait!  I've never rode a bike newer than a 1980s, let alone a 2008 crotch rocket.

Takes a little of the wind out of my K2 build though.  But at least I don't feel the rush to get it done anymore.  I can relax a bit.  Make sure everything's right.

Yeah, my problem (if I have a problem, that is...), is that I love all bikes.  That little 350 is a cute one, and would make for a good cafe.  I was already thinking about a project where the absolute minimum is done to get it on the road.  I'd even just clear coat the tank the way it is - kind of a "rough" look.

But I have a million projects as it is.  I kind of want to relax a bit.  I suppose I could go look at it though and see if it's worth the trouble of parting it out.

I'll take it slow and I'll be careful.  At least I'm somewhat experienced with riding in general - like looking for cars, animals, slick spots, gravel, etc.  So at least I can concentrate on getting used to the power and such.  But I'll take it slow.  Thanks for the concerns though you guys.   :)

the 600 will be fun, it corners SO well!!  nice smooth powerband as well!  they're very rev happy bikes that like to spend time about 10k...  throw a nice pipe, air filter and ECM tune, and you'll really wake up your senses!  just don't ride the 1000, you'll be looking for the next one on sale once you're used to the 600's power!

Goddammit, this thread is making me half want one of these death-machines. I'm satisfied with the 550, but all that's going through my thick head right now is "MAINTENANCE FREE" and "RELIABLE" ughh. So many #$%*s ride these things though, I can't have people think I'm one of them, right??  ::)

I haven't called about it yet.  I was pretty busy yesterday.  No promises, but if it's still for sale when I finally get around to checking it out, maybe I'll get it.  I normally don't part things out, but who knows....

I'm afraid that statement may be true.   :-\
I was looking at Youtube clips of my new bike, and a car drove by as some guy was talking about what he's done to his bike.  He followed the car with his camera, and when the car went past, he said "weak."  I thought, 'what a douche bag.'

But then again, most of the crotch kids at least wave back when I'm on the CB - which is more than I can say for some other bikers ("HuhBuh, HuhBuh, HuhBuhBuhBuhBuh" (the HD cough :) )).
