They're fun bikes, but like driving a Formula 1 car on the street. You'll never use one to a fraction of its potential without breaking lots and lots of laws. I sold my VFR due to too many tickets. I now have an old FZR1000 in addition to my 400F. I ride it around with the throttle barely cracked on the street. It's an exercise in frustration. On a deserted stretch of road or a closed course it's a motherf'n riot though.
I think anything with 70+ horsepower will outpace your dad's bike. A modern 600 puts about 100 to the rear wheel. The 1000s are all in the 150 range.
Very accurately put sir. My 600 rr fits those statements well.
Had it a year now, an '08, and still not tired of it. It still amazes me sometimes. Change oil, lube the chain, check the pressures occasionlly, and RIDE. Fuel injection, electronic steering stabilizer, adjustable rear shock and forks (rebound and compression) radial tubless tires, low seat height, and a 15,000 rpm redline. (yeah, it makes power up to that point) It does require a certain physique to ride one. A longer reach, no gut and stronger abs help. only the bigger sport bikes will be faster.
43 mpg city, highway, and crazy combined. If you ride for thrills, any of the 600s will deliver. They're fun under all conditions except city stop and go. Then they are a chore. And they attract cops like an all night donut shop. I can't get enough of mine.
