I'm not worked up. You're the one who keeps changing the story. We are talking about YOUR bike not worked over Bimotas. You're the one that started this grudge match. Ummmm, you keep referring to riding "liter" class bikes. Do you even know what a Speed Triple is?  You're right! We disagree, why am I even wasting my time.

My bike kept up with "worked over Bimotas".

I started a grudge match? Is that what this is? I'm not the one who's angry and upset over someone else's opinion.

I know that a Triple is a liter class bike. Have you ever ridden any other liter bike? That's what I was referring to.

I'm sorry that I upset you with my endless ranting on how a S3 isn't that great except in the unique-ness factor. It's only my opinion after all.

Besides we are completely off topic and I'd be happy to refrain to allow the topic to resume. I'm sorry.

Soichiro...

What are your thoughts on what you want to ride? Style? Seating position? Maybe brand?

Maybe havoc is thinking of the 'street triple' instead of the speed triple. 675cc vs 1050cc. Big difference.
Also, the differences in the various litre bikes from ducati is pretty huge. Some make 85hp, some make 160hp. You guys need to be specific as to what you are talking about to make comparisons.

If you aren't citing WHICH bikes you are talking about, you can't make a valid comparison.

I was thinking a mildly stock SPEED Triple... 1050cc.

vs.

My race prepped Duc 900ss... 920cc.

But it's behind me now. It doesn't really matter because we aren't going to ride what Soichiro buys. Whatever it is... I hope at least HE likes it.  ;D

Soichiro...

I've decided that I'm just gonna get a Harley.

Nah... just kidding.  :)

Let's start with brand.  Of course, I'd like to stick with Honda, but the Yamaha looks tempting.  I know you mentioned the Kaws.

I will get a 600 cc unless I get a really good deal on a litre bike.

For style and seating, I was just thinking about the typical looking full fairing type bikes.  Nothing special.  I'd probably put some add-ons on to make it somewhat my own.

I'm not in a real hurry.  Maybe not until next summer.  Depends on when I find it I guess.  I'm a very patient person.  :)

CBR600rr / R6 / ZX6R/ZZR600

Those would be my suggestions. Great intros to the sport bike world as far as seat position, engine, and handling.

Almost all of which come with a whole slew of aftermarket goodies available. For a huge range of years.

(sorry to add fuel to the fire, soichiro)
(ducati 900ss, even race prepped, is making at most, 95hp vs 130 of the stock speed tripple. Weight of a race preped 900ss is about 385lbs, minimum. S3 is just over 415 or so lbs stock. The wheelbase on the triple is just over an inch longer. The duc has an advantage on the track of being fared, but the power difference probably negates that advantage. While  a 90's model motorcycle thats prepped with period correct 'racing' suspension will surely handle well, the fact is that the newest high end street suspension is probably, for the most part, about on par. Depending on the track, my nod goes to the triple. All this is on paper, in my head. Brain paper. I've seen the speed triples out at PIR. They are pretty damned brutal.)

That funny that you say that. My friend had a '94-'95 900CR that had a bit of work done. We swapped for quite a bit and all I can say is that thing was anemic. Looks good but had nothing on the triple. If it was such a great bike why is it gone......forget it!

Bone stock.....

I always wanted to get a Hawk GT and find a way to fit the litre Honda v-twin in it...
That's neither here nor there, though. Any of the Honda cb600's are fantastic bikes. I'd try to find one of those. Not always as fast as their Kawi and Suzi counterparts, but quite a bit more refined and easier to ride.

I always felt that the Honda's have better fit and finish. Great choice!! the Kawai 636 is a nice cheater bike though.

vstroms are cool looking except for the front end... I'm not digging it... maybe change the fairing for a 7" headlight or something...Hmmm that would be kick ass!

There is no question there are a lot of cool, fast, cheap bikes out there but finding one that fits you and fits your riding style is the trick  ;)

That R6 is probably the most bike for the buck in that list.
The old CB600 f3 is a nice buy, too.
I'd prolly get the kz1000 though :P

Would you believe that turbo set-up had been in use since 78?

He brought it to my father every several years for new seals and bearings, and now he brings it to me. It's a daily rider and a weekend dragger and pulls that double duty since the early 80's.

It's scary fast for an old steel framed bike.

The Bandit 400 is a 420lb/50hp bike...that's about on par with the CB550. What do they run in the quarter? I can't see it doing much better than high 13s, but I guess I don't really know for sure.

Opps. guess I looked at it wrong. You're right. a Bandit 400 is about on par with a 550. My mistake.

I am not at all up on the Kawi's but isn't the ZZR a severely detuned version of the ZX6?

ACtually a fun bike is the Ninja 650...my buddy has one. Can't hang with my friend's F4i or even my F3 but not bad at all. To be honest I find it a very comfortable rider (for the little bits we have swapped out for on rides). It is a Twin though so probably a more even torque curve but not the higher HP of other middle weights. Can't remember if there has been much talk of the SV650...it has a decent following but to be honest I have no direct knowledge...just word of mouth through other riders.

Soichiro, I am truly sorry for the pissing match on your thread that doesn't even have anything to do with your question.

I'm going to +1 the SV650 though I guess they stopped making them and came out with the Gladius?

anyway, I really liked the Gladius, too.

It is detuned, but not severely.

The major difference besides looks are the seating and riding positions. Frame geometry is slightly different for the more upright position and feel. Seat height is lower and more plush, allowing less discomfort on long trips. It's also easier to mount soft bags on the ZZR due to the reshaped body work.

If you bought a new ZZR and a new ZX6 for the $$ you would spend on the ZX you could turn the ZZR into the same thing but with less aggressive user profiles.

Basically a stage 3 jet kit, full exhaust, and adjustable cam gears will turn it into a sport touring version of a ZX6.
