Blowing the main fuse - 1981 Suzuki GS 550

My brother's got a 1981 Suzuki GS 550 that keeps blowing the main fuse.  Any ideas on how to approach this problem?

Yep, track down the short.

Start with the leads to the blown fuses.

Agreed. The GS's biggest problems were the electrical components. Of ALL sizes.
