quick suzuki two stroke question

My buddy picked up a 1970 Suzuki T250 two-stroke street bike and we're trying to get this thing on the road. It will start with starting fluid blown in the carbs and run if you keep it throttled. If you let the gas off, put it in gear or turn the choke off, it dies, also, when you are starting it, gas blows out the back of the carbs. Clearly, the carbs need to come off and be soaked, blown out etc. Can you guys offer any advice as to what these symptoms speak to as a root problem? Thanks, looking to get this little screamer on the streets soon.

Carbs and mixture. Clean carbs. Run with proper intake restriction.

I owned the bigger brother in the 70's the T350 REBEL very fast very much fun and only out matched slightly by the famous RD350 Yammie, we don't count he 350 Kwaka as not many of those hand grenades survived initial run-in milage. :D
As Mlinder said get em off get em cleaned out, very forgiving carbs on those early model Suzukis, I'd be surprised if you even needed an air filter.
Once set the carbs are bullet proof and need nil adjusting.
Stock standard the T250 HUSTLER could do the ton any day you asked it. ;D
God I love the sound of those long twin chrome pipes, there is just something about them, the T500 TITAN had the best ones, what a great noise. (owned 2 of those)

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Dangit, now I want to get the GT500 apart and running.

Yeah, older Suzuki's are tanks. Pull the carbs and clean them, you'll be ready to rock after that. Good luck with it, I'd love to get a 2-stroke on the road.

You don't at all, it's been in the woods for about 15 years and won't be a restoration by any means :(

I know a guy that had reverberation in the intake on his piston-ported Kawasaki. He lengthened his intake stacks and solved the problem. also check for leaks at the carb mounts or between crank case seals on multi cyl engines...
