71 cb500 wiring
« on: June 27, 2009, 11:52:43 PM »
hello..  little bit lost..trying to find a matching color... I had to replace the wiring harness with a donor cb500.... but I have run into a problem matching up colored wires..

I'm looking at the wiring diagram... and have matched up the brown w/ white stripe with same.. as well as the yello w/ red...and the black w/ white line.... but I can't find a match in the wire harness for the green w/ red stripe.... and the two black look like they should go into black.. but there appear to be a few black connectors and a few green wires un connected..

I don't have starter at all....I

anyone know where the green w/ red stripe in in the harness..and does it matter which black I connect to?

Well, that looks like it comes from your clutch safety switch.  Now, what year is this wiring harness from?  I have a wiring harness from a '73 CB500, which did not have that clutch safety switch (no green-red), and my '75 CB550 that I was rewiring DID have a clutch safety switch.  It's actually easy to figure out, perhaps when my wife lets me type a longer explanation, I'll explain the starter solenoid system to you.  Wives......turned a 2 week rebuild into a "going on 6 months" rebuild....gotta love 'em.
