HELP!!!! Honda cb360
« on: June 27, 2009, 03:54:07 AM »
I have a 1975 Honda cb360, I've had it for about a year and a half and its always ran like a champ. i took it out for its first ride of the season 3 days ago and it was fine. went to ride it the very next day and i was getting almost nothing out of the right cylinder. getting good exhaust out of both pipes at idle, but when i go to take off hardly anything out of the right side. just some sputtering and backfires, eventually the right side seems to cut off completly. I would greatly appreciate any and all help as this is driving me crazy!!!

Could have a blob of dirt in the jet too.  Easy enough to pop off the bowl and clean the jets.

Thanks for the input guys, i just adjusted the points. they didn't seem far out, though i know it doesn't take much. i used the paper method and got them both dialed right on. getting ready to take her out for a test ride. i'll post how it goes, also any other ideas out there in case this doesn't fix my problem?

Opie, The cb/cj 360s' were/are excellent rides, sudden loss of 1 cyl indicates either ign. or carb.if spark is present on dead cyl, would check for fuel delivery/clean jets. and vacumn diaphram at slide. luck g

If you adjusted both points to some specific value, then you're off-track. Setting the right side point to some specific gap means there is a good chance your timing is off.

There's a specific procedure for timing these beasties - read about it here -

yep! between the timing and the gap, the dwell is fixed. you have to set the gap first at the widest point and then set the timing. When setting the timing, check with a test light when the LF mark lines up with the stator mark. And be sure you are rotating in the correct direction! It makes a difference in accuracy of the timing!

Don't rule out a bad spark plug boot.  The originals are resistor type and fail with age/use on an intermittent basis at the beginning.  They are still available from Honda.

After riding mine for years and Paul helping find my timing problem I looked at the diaphrams and both had little tears in them.  Right side was bigger. Without any to replace them at the time I smeared on a little scotchkote liquid electrical tape.  Been holding so far. Runs better than it ever has.

"First ride of the season" it was sitting, probably needed nothing more than a good cleaning, particularly gummed pilot jets
