Chasing the fuse blowing problem
« on: June 27, 2009, 05:59:27 PM »
I posted about my fuse blowing adventures a week or so ago.  Did it again on the way to my kid's recital...  Didn't make it.  I hooked my ammeter up to it and didn't see anything approaching 15 amps.  Charging voltage was about 14.5VDC.  I then remembered that my high beam light was always on, I found that when I connected it I plugged it into the wrong connector in the headlight shell  ::)  I looked closely at my fuse holder.  While the center was clean (I wire brushed them a week ago), I notice the sides were crusty.  My battery terminals were the same way.  I cleaned them up good and we'll see if this makes a difference.  The next step is the buss fuse idea...

Order up a Higgins fuse box.  I installed one and haven't thought about fuses since!

Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Thanks, I've seen that fuse thread.  I just felt with only one fuse on my 350, it was overkill.  I completed a 50 mile (or so) ride today with no blown fuse.  Perhaps that clean up job did the trick.  Time will tell.

My 750 would blow about 1 fuse for every 15 hours of riding time, pretty predictably. It was the fuse clips, heating those fuses up and slowly melting them.

I think ev0lution is marketing some neat fuseboxes with labels, but they are multi-fuse type. They are blades. It would be sort of like having built-in spares?

Well, with only one fuse on the 350... I'd just switch it to a blade type fuse.
