Topic: Cb750 dual-disc front wheel onto a cb550?

Hello all,

I've used the site for a while as inspiration and guidance, have to say it's pretty damn good.
I've now unfortunately got to the point in my own project where I feel the need for some direct help!

Currently I'm trying to get myself a dual-disc front brake assembly sorted, for my '78 cb550. I have myself a pair of of 550 rotors, callipers, steel hoses etc. as well as a fistful of speedo gear-box thingies. My problem is that I do not have access to machining facilities thus getting the two discs and speedo mounted onto the front wheel is looking difficult.

My question is; can I buy myself a cb750 front wheel of the dual disc variety, remove the bigger discs and bolt mine on?
I'm guessing the wheel might be a bit wider and cause me some problems?

Edited to add: If this won't work are there any other dual-disc wheels I can just drop in?

All you need is to get a dremel to cut the speedo drive and notches in the hub.  It does not need to be machine shop tolerances.

450 2win, 500 4, 750 4, all share same front hub..

Saw dremel's mentioned in a few previous topics but didn't think to look into what they were or how easy to get hold of! Might be a useful tool to have by the looks of it.

Finding this was my main reason for going down this track, currently dirt cheap and just down the road from me:

Didn't realise til later that there's only 5 bolts going through it rather than the usual 6 though, don't suppose you'd happen to recognise it? Is it maybe a later DOHC 750?

That is a 77/78 F front by the look of it.
 not sure if spacing is close to a 500 with duals, if it is and diameter is close, you may be able to use it by milling your swing brackets thinner.. not sure if this has been done..
 leaving soon for shop, if I remeber I will measure the 500 disc & the Fs..

Forget the F2 front wheel unless you fit the complete front end including master cyl
