Help with Saddlebags?
« on: June 29, 2009, 02:27:44 PM »
Hello Group,

First Time Poster here.

I have a 1977 CB750A and I am trying to mount up a set of Bate Hard Bags on it.

I was wondering if any folks out there had a bike with similar hardbags and possibly had some pictures. I have what appears to be universal Bates brackets, and no real idea how to mount them to my bike. This is just not jumping out to me.

Any help / photos would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Bob Grave

Welcome to the Forum Bgrave1!  There is an "Owner's Registry" here on the forum.  If no one pipes up with the picture you are looking for, you could scan that topic for examples.  May as well post a pic of YOUR bike and a short bio while you're there!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

My bike has Bates bags on it. It's a CB750A 1976.  I"ll try to attach picture to this reply (I'm new too).  If you can't see what you need I can try to take some different shots.

I'm not sure what mounts you have, but here's what mine look like:

Thanks for the pics guys.

I would have to say that my brackets are more similar to yours Gordon. Could you possibly take a frew more shots for me from the sides and the fronts?

Thanks very much!

Those are the only decent pictures I could get with the bags mounted on the bike.

I was wondering, do you have any struts that go down to your passenger foorpegs bolts? This seems to be the only snag I have left.

Thanks again,

Bob G.

Nope.  The only mounting points are what you see in the picture.  Two on the rear of the cases that go to the fender/frame, and one on the front that attaches to the top shock stud.  It's a very sturdy mount.  When I first put them on I set a bathroom scale on top of one of the bags and had to put 80 pounds of my weight on it just to get the bag to bend down a couple of inches.
