750 Chain and Sprokets question
« on: June 30, 2009, 07:42:55 AM »
I'm helping a guy work on his frankenstein 750 ('71 750 motor in a '77 750F frame) that he just bought and he needs a new chain.  I don't know nothing bout no 750's, but the searching I've done so far tells me that the 77 and 78 750's ran a 630 chain, while the earlier models ran a 530 chain.

So my question is should we swap the 630 rear sprocket for a 530 or should we swap the 530 front sprocket for a 630.  Are these just bolt on conversions or is there more work involved with one switching one of the sprockets over the other?

Thanks for your help...

The 530 chain route is much cheaper, so I would just convert everything to fit that size frame. The stock sprocket teeth are 18t front and 48t rear.

Change the rear sprocket carrier, or thin it, to get proper chain alignment with that engine frame combo.
