VIN Number Question
« on: November 14, 2005, 07:50:40 AM »
Hi! Just got my first bike, a 75 CB400F. So Happy!!!
The VIN numbers on the frame and engine are really different. Not just one number away. Is this normal? It is registered under the Engine VIN.
Bike is in great shape, a real Champ. I have so many questions, but enjoying the ride.
Thanks
-Amy

Yup, Honda make the frames in one factory and the engines in another, where they both get stamped up. There is more reason to be suspicious if they match. Numbers are generally a few hundred appart - some models just dont match up at all, when the engine is used in different frames for instance.

In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.

OK Great, thank you.... so much to learn!!

I think I need a new battery, it died on me the other day...
Manual says bike needs to be above 2000 RPM's to charge the battery. In Brooklyn there is so much stop and start with stopsigns and lights....
Don't know how old the battery is but being stranded is no fun. :-[

Welcome Amy - good to see the ranks of the best little SOHC4 are growing - where abouts are you located (hoping you'll say Bucks, Beds or Herts so we can ride when the sun returns!

Terry (also CB400F owner - well, currently a pile of parts slowly going together)!

Oh well, Brooklyn is just a little too far for an outing together - but have fun anyway!
