You know Bill, with this SOHC community distance means nothing.  Just think of the hundreds and hundreds of thoughts and prayers going out to you and your family daily.  I have thought about you many times since you were kind enough to share your sorrow with us.  The posts you make about your life with Brenda and how much you both gave to others is moving.  We will continue to give you all the support you need.  And thanks for sharing those special memories of Brenda with us.  Keep them coming as you feel able.  Take care...God will walk with you every step of the way.

Bill,

I'm posting this here since I don't know how full your mailbox is and whether you are checking there.

A number of people have approached me about setting something up where donations could be made for flowers or something in Brenda's memory.  I'm suggesting to people that they make a donation to Bost, Inc. which is the organization where you and your wife worked.  I hope that meets up OK with your desires.

On a personal note, I know how much organizations like Bost and the people who work there mean to families of the developmentally disabled.  My step-brother, who is now 65, was born with Down's syndrome in an era where children with that affliction were often warehoused in institutions.  His parents were fortunate to have community resources which helped them keep him at home.  I'm sure Bost has provided much needed support to members of your community and a gift to an organization like that seems a great way to remember Brenda.

Folks, the response from here, is SO overwhelming and I am really astounded at ALL the responses. I thought I knew about the reaction that I would get (which I expected to be huge), But I wasn't even close. If at all possible, I sure would like to have a printup of this thread. to keep and read as I want to. Would this be possible?

I would expect nothing less than complete shock form all of us. You sir are one of if not the most kind hearted and positive people in this community. You share a love of something that goes beyond physical and into daily life. That's what I think this community is, a place where we can share our lives with our motorcycles.

And when the life of a member is cut short. Even someone we have no direct contact through, we all feel pain and suffering. And we all want to be there to help you share the load.

I have never lost a significant other. Nor my parents. But in your time of need my SOHC4 brother if there's anything I, we, this community can do.... We'd be there in a heartbeat.

We love you Bill. And as a result we love Brenda too. Her life through your eyes was shown here in all your conversations with us. From how you met to how you lived, it is all very special to me, us.

Donating to a cause that you both helped support would only be the least we could do.

We all love you and are here for you in this time of need.
Feel better Bill.

Joe.

Folks,

It is not the easiest site to donate to ( credit card - no paypal ), but if you spend the extra few moments it takes to complete it, I believe that it is the VERY LEAST that we can do to as a community help a brother in his time of loss. Please make your donation in the memory of....Brenda Van Pelt

You know, I think (not for sure) that I have done nearly all that is needed for now. I just got back from getting a new suit (mine don't fit anymore ::) ), shirt, shoes, tie and billfold (I was doing to have to get one of those anyway) from Dillards (well, we have an account there from quite a few years back-over 30yrs, in fact) because it was convenient and not straight out of pocket. Got to look as good as possible (older I get, harder it is to try to look presentable, much less GOOD). Of course, had to drop the suit off to get it tailored.

I just also found out that the preacher (he is on his way back from mission work in Canada and started back early, as soon as he got word about Brenda) has put the word out that because Brenda was the pianist, the piano would not have anyone on it and would be silent Sunday, in remembrance of Brenda. I can't tell you all how set me back. I mean, I think the world of her, but I was married to her. It's awesome to have others feel that way to. After all, my opinion might be considered somewhat biased.

Well, here I sit, at a loss for words and just sitting here thinking about the times we had together and, I'll tell ya, we were GREAT together!

                                         Gotta go.

give yourself time man, don't run around all busy etc.   it's okay to sit back a bit and let your thoughts go.....

maybe a weird question, but would it be weird to ask if you can post a picture of her..???

she sounds like she was a great person and it's nice to have a face with it......

Marti, I want you to know, I like you an awful lot, but guys have said far less and left wearing their drinks on their shirts.

If I don't keep busy, I start letting go somewhat and I am trying to keep it together for Karla and so I can try to make sure that everything is done, that needs to be.

She WAS a great person, but unfortunately, I can't post photos at the present time. My pc is so overloaded that I barely have enough memory to even get on line and my email is screwed up also. Just as soon as I can I WILL be posting some photos of her. I can honestly say that she was and IS the only one for me AND so, I'll just have to wait til MY time comes, so that we can be together once again. ;)

Again, I'd like to thank ALL of you for ALL the support for us in our time of need,  Bill & Karla

Bill, although I did send a PM I feel the need to post here as well. I am just getting back from a few days up at my parent's cottage...I don't even know what to say. I know no words could possibly help heal the hurt you must be experiencing.

As for being less of a man for crying...well not sure what that says about me since I shed a tear for a man and his beloved wife that I have never even met! Take the time (and all the tears) you need to grieve this incredible loss. Also,  be there for Karla as she has been there for you since if she has stayed strong for this long surely it will "set in" soon.

I can not even fathom how it must be for you. I only have 10 and a half years with Melissa but even the thought of not having her near me sends shivers down my spine. I remember reading how you and Brenda met in a previous thread somehwere on here (maybe the one about your dad?) and it is such a great story. From the little you have shared about her I know that she was an INCREDIBLE woman! How she stepped up and supported you when you were dealing with the worst fo your dad's situation speaks volumes as to her character.

The only condolence I can offer (and even it seems somewhat trite right now) is that she is in a far better place and one day you WILL be reunited with her.

Bill, you have been a pillar of strength for many of us over the years and I hope that you can atleast draw some of that strength from us now in this time of need.

Bill, I don't know anything about you really, but just reading this thread makes me look up to you and your wife. I have only been married about 8 years and it ended pretty much a couple years ago. I always appreciate seeing a couple who have stuck through it all for decades and still can stand to be in each other's presence. I wonder what my future will be and hope that someday I can see it as you have lived it with your wife. God bless you.

Bill,

I have no words of wisdom and can't pretend to know what you are going through, but my heart goes out to you.  Just reading through the replies you have gotten in only two days shows what a great community we have here.  Even though I and most people on this board have never actually met you, I have gotten to know you and others in a different and sort of detached way.  Something like this puts a real human touch on what is a normally non-emotional activity.  It is great to know that there are people out there that care.  Take care and comfort that your friends are praying for you and your family.

You know, I have read each and every one of the posts here (and some, 2 or even 3 times) and even though some of them are similar in the wording, EACH ONE has a special meaning to me because I know that each word was typed with true feelings behind them. I think it is TOTALLY AWESOME that folks (most of) who have never physically met, can some together when a member is in need. THAT is one of the things that makes this place so incredibly Awesome and Glenn, along with Bob, Steve and (for awhile) heffay have done an excellant job, IMHO!

You hang in there Bill, all the organising one of these things takes will keep you on the up for a while, the crash will come afterwards but it's a natural thing built into us humans as a failsafe device so we don't implode.
I've organised funerals for my brother and both my parents, unfortunately you do get good at it but still hate doing it.
Hold your head up for just a little while longer for Brenda, when it's all completed you'll feel like you've run a marathon.
It's always going to be the great memories we hold dearest, they are the unique untradable images only we can summon...........Kia Kaha Bill.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Thanks for that Hush. I'm holding fairly well, so far. Oh, I've had my moments and usually when I'm alone. it's kinda like I'm doing all these things and she's watching me, with me expecting here to come in suddenly and critique me on my work, ya know. Then, sometimes, when I'm in the van or at WalMart, I keep expecting a phone call to remind me of something, ask me to get a few more things or ask me where I am? :(  And, the weird thing is, although I've seen her at the hospital, done all the things necessary to go through the process to have her service AND bury her, I STILL CAN"T BELIEVE THAT SHE'S GONE! I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IT! I'm so afraid of what will happen to me at the funeral! I have to go, I had a pretty hard time, near the end of this.

This thread drives home the point that even though this is an electronic forum, we have all come to consider many of each other as close as Family. I am no exception to this and consider many here family, and I grieve along with you for Brenda as well as for you, Bill and for Karla as well, and the rest of your Kin.

Still more thoughts and prayers for you, every day.
