The Last Detail 1973
« on: April 12, 2009, 10:01:29 PM »
I have this on my NetFlix queue. I watched it years ago, liked it a lot. If you can get past the scene where squids actually get the better of jar heads, ::), it really proves it self to be an underrated classic.

saw it in a theater as a new release(pop would take the kid to an 'R' movie just to piss mom off). good show.

last night watched the original 1976 "Assault on Precinct 13". hadn't seen that in years.

maybe time for another '70s flick....... how about "ZARDOZ"?

i'll have to check those out. 'precinct 13 sounds familiar and may have seen it on the 'tube.

the 70's had some real stinkers but the minimalism trend was cool if pulled off correctly, and the decade popularized the anti hero we take for granted now.

The (original) Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 is another classic/must see.

gesundheit.

Shaw and Matthau were great in that one.

Pct. 13 was remade in 2005 with Larry Fishburne as the black cop. haven't seen it.

John Carpenter's original is a classic.

Warden: [after punching Wilson out of a chair without the slightest provocation] He just slipped right out of the chair.
Napoleon Wilson: Yeah, I don't sit in chairs as well as I used to.

Warden: You know Wilson, I'm gonna miss you.
Napoleon Wilson: That's not the truth, Warden. You should always tell the truth. Even a little white lie can sometimes trip a man up.
[trips the Prison Warden with his chain]
Napoleon Wilson: He don't stand up as good as he used to.

Arthur Frayn: [opening lines ] I am Arthur Frayn... and I am Zardoz. I have lived three hundred years, and I long to die... but death is no longer possible. I am immortal.
[Excitedly ]
Arthur Frayn: I present now my story, full of mystery and intrigue - rich in irony, and most satirical. It is set deep in a possible future, so none of these events have yet occurred... but they *may.* Be warned, lest you end as I. In this tale, I am a fake god by occupation - and a magician, by inclination. Merlin is *my* hero!
[Intensely ]
Arthur Frayn: I am the puppet master. I manipulate many of the characters and events you will see.
[Soberly ]
Arthur Frayn: But *I* am invented, too, for your entertainment - and amusement.
[Slyly ]
Arthur Frayn: And you... poor creatures, who conjured *you* out of the clay?
[Chuckles ]
Arthur Frayn: Is God in show business too?

Not without a big reefer. ;D  Saw this on a double bill with Barbarella many years ago on LSD.  I don't think I could sit through either without some sort of enhancement as the few times I have had the chance to see them since I was straight and they were unwatchable.  Might have something to do with my first experience. ;D

first time i saw Barbarella i had eaten a bunch of mushrooms and smoked some opium too. i watched it recently and for the first time, sober. i had to turn it off after 30 minutes. theres are certain things that are better stoned than sober, like miniature golf, monty python. tripped my brains out on dark side of the moon blotter the first time i saw "A Polish Vampire in Burbank" sorry, thread hijack over.
