New project: 1972 Suzuki T500 Titan
« on: July 01, 2009, 01:13:12 pm »
Bought for $100, bike is complete, and seemingly in decent shape, cylinders supposedly need to be rebored and new pistons put in. Checked it out, paid, got title and its getting delivered tomorrow. Not sure if this thing will be resurrected or parted out. I'd like to see it on the road before I get rid of it, seems like a good bike to cut my teeth in the two-stroke world on. Seems like there's a few guys working on these in this forum, chime in, tell me what you think etc. The last pic is the desire result if I keep it.

Well, it arrived just now at the house. First issue besides tons of cleaning up will be to figure out why it doesn't want to roll backwards. Any thoughts? I'm off to take pics right now.

Well, my first thoughts were the brake shoes stuck to the drums.  My Hodaka project was that way.  Had to put it up on two skateboards to maneuver it into the garage...

But, you specifically mention backwards.  Does this mean that it WILL roll forwards, then?

Hmmm.....  I got nothing on that...   :-[

Hey there,

Good find. Maybe we can share notes as we delve into the bikes. Keep me/us posted and make a project thread in the 'Shop. I've got a GT500, seems I may have started a trend here?  8) Glad to see somebody else starting in on a two stroke, and it may as well be the same model. I like the green, good luck with it! IF you do end up parting it (which I hope you don't do), what condition are the pipes in? I'll probably end up getting a welder and making my own expansion chambers, my pipes are shot, but if you gave me the opportunity to go stock I'd take it.

Anyway, keep an eye on my project thread (http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=54098.0) and make one for yourself. We can share notes and help each other out along the way? I should be keeping up on this thread more than I did my SOHC thread, I actually have a decent camera with plenty of memory this time around.
