KO seat latch on a K4???
« on: July 02, 2009, 09:50:46 AM »
this has been buggin me for a while. i bought a bike recently and was told by PO that it was a 1970 CB750. shows what he knows. i looked up the #'s and 234.... stamped on the frame is a K4. right? so why does it have a seat latch not a post. is this any indicator? is there any other tell tale signs. the latch is not bolted on, it is welded. just thought i would ask as all of you seem to be very knowledgeable. and thanks for all the posts this site has been VERY helpful so far.

Take a look at the sticker on the neck of the bike.  In the corner will be a month and year like 9/70.  See what yours says as that will be the build of that bike.  Can you post a pic of the bike and of the seat latch in question?  That will help...

The early and later seat latches are interchangeable.  Now, why it's welded on instead of bolted on is another question altogether.

thanks for the quick response. im an idiot its bolted on. for my next question, tag looks to be glued on, no rivits. matches title but not bike. 102.... on tag, 234.... on frame and engine. knew this going in but fell in love and got it cheap. PO said this was one of 20 he got from estate sale. i saw all 20. sketchy?!?!?he said i could get the title changed to match the # on the bike. not looking to profit just something to tinker with and ride. any input you all may have im ready for it, though i dont think it will be good :- ??? pics 2maro dont have my camera on me now

That.... could be problematic, should a police officer or state inspector compare the VIN plate to the stamped number.  The stamped number is the one they consider "official".

If you go to the search page and run a search for "title" you'll find numerous threads where people have to get new titles for their bikes.

As to the bottom-end noise, these bikes can produce a fair amount of chatter at idle, it's often the cam chain (adjustable) or the primary chains (not adjustable).  Does the noise change when you pull in the clutch lever at idle?
