Glad to be here, found myself with some time and a bike that needs some attention.
Me, been riding since the 70's, my first street bike was a Kawasaki H1B, heck of a way to learn.
Owned a lot of motorcycles over the years, a 919 I bought new and recently sold was one of my favorites -
www.geocities.com/honda919riderBut that's history.
Now, I ride a GL500 and it's been a blast, amazingly....
I worked at a Honda dealership as service manager for a couple and a half years, inherited a mid seventies CB750 with 7500 miles on it, with about $4K worth of work done to it - the owner off'ed himself and I ended up with it, as there was no one to pay the bill......
It's a chopper, frames been cut, extended tube, king and queen, you all know what's been done....
I've got a 1/8 mile drag strip close to home, and I want to turn it into a budget drag bike.
So, the plan is to strip it down and sell the parts off on eBay to pay for stock fork tubes and whatever other little items needed to turn it into a reliable little play toy at the strip.
It's got a new 4-1 on it, and I was hoping to install individual air filters, jet it and go racing.
Hopefully it will run in the 8's in the 8th, I have no clue what it will do.
On a budget, we're all tired of hearing about the economy but I got the whammy and with a house, wife and kids, this is going to be on the cheap.
Mechanically, I can handle all the work - have all the tools, ect. Not a problem.
What I need is suggestions on jetting, maybe a few other things to watch for or to do -
I hope to bring some mechanical experience to the forum, and some knowledge of great rides in this part of the world.
Glad to be here, wish me luck, and I'm open to suggestions on anything from where to sell the parts to where to buy the fork tubes (or can I cut them down.... hummmmm) to any tuning ideas - these bikes have been around forever, I see no need to recreate the wheel......
Thanks
Steve
