Brake Pads - Break In Procedure
« on: August 22, 2009, 12:08:52 PM »
Hi All,
Just installed a new set of pads. Just wondering if there is a proper procedure to break them in, or do I just make sure they stop and give them hell? Thanks

General school of thought is not to heat them up too quickly, use them and gradually built up heat make a couple of panic stops with plenty of time to cool some before next one, continue to brake normally, should be broken in quicker than I typed this.Bill

Make sure they're super clean, no grease, no brake fluid. Then do a couple of hard stops, 15-0 a couple times. Then do 30-0 a couple times, as hard as you're comfortable. Make sure not to hold the lever down after you stop for these break-in stops. They'll continue to improve for the first few miles of riding.
