400F Pillion Footrest Hangars - when?
« on: November 14, 2005, 03:26:18 AM »
For the 400F Gurus - what year did HOnda start producing frames with separate footrest hangars ?  Originally they produced the pillion pegs mounted to the swing arm  My frame has separate hangars for the pegs.

According to the parts book it wasnt from any particular time but it depended on which country it was destined for! US, Canada and Australia seems to have had swing arm mounted all the way through. England,France, Germany and Sweden should have been frame mounted. BUT parts books aint always right
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Thanks for the info BrianJ - this was/is obviously a European version of thirty year old vintage, identified as a '75 version by David Silver. The frame number is 1067974, and the engine number is CB400F: 1068776.
Seems my 'bike is the only one around here - I put it into the shop to have a screwed-up stud removed, and immediately had 4 offers made on it.

Thanks again,

Terry (the one in Buckinghamshire, UK., not the one in Oz)!

Terry,
How very wise of you to make that geographical distinction, very wise indeed!
In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.

:D

our roads are, of course, billiard table smooth, with lovely flowing sweeping curves up hill and down dale, we've outlawed cars and trucks, and all our livestock is trained to stand about in paddocks, not wander out on the road.... yep, paradise on earth..

sorry, my medication must be just about to kick in.... ahhhhhhhhh thats better.

According to the August 2005 Classic Bike cover story on the 400F, in 1976 "Pillion pegs moved to separate loops welded to the frame".  I'll email you the whole "Development" page from the article.
