Bike was delivered this morning, paid $100, complete except for one sidecover the seller thinks he still has somewhere. Wishing I'd had better pics of how dirty it was when I got it, but its cleaning up great. Only real issue is that it had a problem with a bad cylinder, the guy tried to weld the inside of it, and according to the machine shop, my best option is to just get a new cylinder, and do an overbore. Can't decide whether to just part it out and make a few hunder quick, or be in it for the long haul. Good news is I hooked up a battery, and all of the electricals seem to work fine, horn, lights, blinkers even blink.
Stay tuned for updates.

What a lovely old Titan, please give me the PO's address so I can go around and waste him for putting on that horrible horrible screen thing!!! >:(
Most of the bike seems in good nick, very original bits, these things roared when running right, slightly soft gearbox, sometimes gears just stopped working on trips and you'd be running on 1st 4th and 6th ha ha.....my only complaint...they pull the most wicked wheelstands. :D
If you aren't going to do a restore I'd put it on EBAY and see how much you can get for it as there will be someone out there who is just busting to restore a Titan.
In the early 70's these bikes had the biggest pistons of any production bike, they are like paint tin lids! ;D
They were severy under resourced in the brakes dept, at 115mph you needed a lot of road to slow down. :D
Craziest thing about any of the Suzuki big twins, no electric starter and the kicker is on the wrong side!
I ruined many pairs of good boots when they got ripped open on the side stand. :( :)

I think the decision to keep it whole has been made, it is just cleaning up too nicely. I'll snap some pics in the morning.

Anyone out there have a good cylinder for this bike? That, a bore and two pistons, and this thing will be on the road.

Sorry I gave away two spare 500 motors a year ago to a guy making a TQ Midget, boy does that car fly.

You are very optimistic -

"a good cylinder for this bike? That, a bore and two pistons, and this thing will be on the road."

I don't think it's going to be that easy. You'll need to pull the engine completely out and take the cases apart. That entire crank assembly needs to be taken apart and at least new crank seals installed, but my guess is you'll need new needle bearings and maybe a crank pin or two (Bill Bune Enterprises did my GT750 for $230). Exposure to any elements will rust/pit those parts in days. Yours has definitely been exposed. All those pieces are still available from Suzuki and not bad in price. You'll need new transmission seals and that's a great time to check for shift drum wear, clutch replacement, and dog and fork condition. The GT750 triple and this Titan twin are the same engine internally - using the same rods, pistons, and pins, so parts are everywhere.

Don't get discouraged, you've got a lot of bike there - I've restored much, much worse.

Regards,
Gordon

Between you and Sporkfly this could be an interesting rebuild. :)

Well, maybe I'm naive regarding the motor, lets hope not as I have zero money to spend on this thing right now. Here's some pics after a few hours of detailing. The rims have no rust, have not hit the spokes yet, seat looks great, a couple of smalle rdents and scratches on the tank, but the paint rubbed out nicely, have not cleaned the tires, only real trouble spot is the for ears, but I think they can be at least presentable. Planning on getting the motor out tonight, taking it to the machine shop and seeing what he thinks. Cost so far; still $100.

As my garage filled, and it became the motor would need a complete rebuild, I gave up and threw in the towel, the two CB750's are more important to me. Already got a few things on ebay, hit me up if anyone needs anything, I'd rather it go to someone here.

Smart move Zoobie, but you should get good $$$ for it even as parts, somewhere out there is a guy just waiting for this project. :)
