350F Engine Removal Question
« on: July 03, 2009, 05:44:23 AM »
I'm down to bare 350F frame and engine, does valve cover need removal before I yank the motor outa frame? Thru the right or left side?  Thats a deep oil pan, whats the trick? I've pulled many CB750 motors, this is my first 350F attempt. I'm planning on supporting motor w/ a floor jack then pull the long motor bolts. The front and rear hangers already off. Thanx in advance.

I'm pretty sure I've pulled mine out from the right.  I've used the jack to support the motor too.  I think you can get it out without removing anything but I've been removing the valve cover (very top one).

I'm pretty sure I've pulled mine out from the right.

I did it out the right side too. I did it with the engine complete (valve cover and oil pan on) but of course, with the oil filter housing off.

If you want to save the paint on the frame, cut up some pipe insulation foam to put on the frame:

I can vouch for the pipe insulation trick (per Matt's advice) when installing a 350F motor.

You can get the motor out by only removing the oil filter housing, but it's REALLY EASY if you take the breather cover and the valve cover. Two scrawny wimps will have no problem with it. I speak from experience.

I can't say I've done it with valve cover on and breather cover off, but I think that alone would make a big difference.

I did mine by pulling the breather cover off and oil filter housing. Also make sure you loosen your rear brake adjuster so the pedal can be pushed all the way down while you remove it. It comes out from the right side of the bike. I aslo remove the exhaust studs on the left side of the bike. Only because I broke one on a 500 motor pulling it out. Just out of curiosity why are you removing the motor? You can do top end work and pistons with the engine still in the bike....transmission troubles?
