Topic: Rust on exhaust header

Okay, so, my parts bike ('73 CB500K) came with a 4-1 Kerker Header and muffler (glasspack, I think).  I plan on putting it on my '75 CB550F, as that one's exhaust disintegrated upon removal.  Yeah, it was ugly.  My only concern about this Kerker exhaust is that it has some light, amber surface rust that I can polish off, but, that surface rust extends inside of the header.  Is there any way to get that rust out of there?  I don't want to have to buy a new exhaust, that is definitely unaffordable.....

a wire wheel that fits inside the pipe on an extension will help, then paint it with some high temp paint... wont last long, but maybe it'll soak into the rust and slow it down.

I use a maas metal polish on mine, and that keeps the surface rust off the chrome pretty well. just gotta put it on every few months.

Sand the rusty area, wipe with solvent and apply with a brush or sponge applicator, it forms a good solid primer that you can paint or leave alone.

I'm not sure how it'll handle the heat of a muffler, but it's cheap, available and it works well otherwise. You can even find it at Walmart.
May be worth a try.
