Polishing engine help?
« on: July 03, 2009, 11:26:15 AM »
Any ideas on how and what to use to clean the blemishes on the engine case?
My name is Joe and i have been riding motorcycles since i was 18. Two years ago i had some engine trouble with my 79' Malibu and my friend VwDan (yes, the same from this forum) loaned me his cb450 for a week. I fell in love with the bike and picked up a sweet 77' cb550. The end. Ride safe!

I went to the dollar store several years ago and picked up like 4 bottles of this metal polish.  Its some no name brand but it has worked AMAZING and I havent even gone through one bottle yet.  I went to Harbor Freight and bought a $10 mini dremel with the polishing pads and went to town...looked 100x better when it was done.

Generally speaking, any polishing will make things shiny so use what you like or what you have.  One caution is to keep steel wool away from aluminum parts, unseen, unfelt bits of steel will imbed into the surface and eventually will rust.
