Imagine the power bill to heat that place when it was in one piece?
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

It had washed about a 1/4 mile down the river and hung up on the gravel bar.  Somebody had hooked a cable from it to a tree to keep it from going farther.  Pic taken in 1980.

Wish they allowed polygamy here in the UK. There'd be a lot less Divorce cases in the courts.

I always feel kinda sad to see abandoned buildings especially farms and houses, I imagine the people who lived/died/grew up there, dreamed there.....sad really.

srust58, it looks like we have similiar adventuring styles, motorcycles and sailboats included.  I'm thinking to myself, hmmm... what color should I dye my hair?

For me, there is a feeling of introspection.  Time passes so slowly for us humans and those abandoned buildings, farms, and houses always serve to remind me how truly fleeting here our time really is.  Entire lives are lived in a space that now returns to dust.

New Zealand was only settled 200 years ago (by Europeans) and anything the Maori built was of sticks and wood so that is all gone.
There is some very interesting funeral caves that the Govt wont allow anyone to investigate, probably because it would upset the Maori who claim to have arrived here to a deserted country thousands of years ago.
Early photos show stone hewen coffins of European look with fair haired tall Euro style bodies in them.
Guess we will ahve to wait for more enlightened less PC times to know the truth.

Here is a very interesting read.   http://www.kaimaiview.co.nz/an_unpalitable_truth.htm

Interesting article. In our local area there are stone shelters and some other undisclosed sites that appear to be Norse in origin. The are not disclosed to protect them from vandals so they can be studied, not for any politically correct reason. Columbus never landed on the US mainland. The Norseman may have. Speculation is that they battled with the Indians, and either left, assimilated, or were killed.

Nah it's political stuff alright, you see the early settlers got the Maori to sign a "TREATY" The Treaty of Waitangi to be precise, this stopped the warring between the new settlers and the other tribes who had been battling each other as well.
Maori have this dread fear that their claim to being the first people to settle here will be in dispute if it is found that some other group arrived here first.
A smaller group of earlier natives, the Moriori were driven from the NZ mainland by the arriving Maori and escaped to the Chatham Islands, where the Maori caught up with and ate most of them.
Billions of dollars are given to the Maori every year as "settlement" for the lands they "lost" when the white man turned up, unfortunately this process of paying for land is never ending as this will be the third time the NZ Government has "bought" the land back and paid "compensation" to the many many Maori tribes.
Whole armies of Maori lawyers now make a living out of dragging this process on forever as the hapless taxpayer shells out again and again for supposed grievences.
So you see how important it would be for Maori to hush up and keep concealed anything that did not agree with their version of the past.
Why the NZ government is assisting in this charade is beyond me?

Our Native Americans also sell untaxed cigarettes and Gasoline. On the rare occasion I find myself near a Resevation, I stop in to show my solidarity with the Native Americans in their struggle against the White Man.
