I love the open freezers, propped up just right for some exploring child to fall into and be trapped. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Amazing shots Srust58, not bad building for a supposed bunch of savages, mind you that wall of skulls reminds me they were a kinda blood thirsty lot. ;D

a severed head which is just to the left of the round object.  We were told by guides at the site that the captain of the WINNING team would be beheaded and is was a great honor. :o

Just goes to show that some people can be talked into anything.

We were told by guides at the site that the captain of the WINNING team would be beheaded and is was a great honor. :o

I remember I was explained that game when I was in school, but my memories were that the whole losing team was beheaded. I remember so clearly how hard seemed to get the ball through the circle just by using elbows, knees, feet and head.

Now let's discuss a little the point. Logic says that it is no wonder their civilization perished, because the strong, good ones were beheaded while the losers were allowed to survive -kinda what happens at wartime-

On the other hand, the same logic says that those who were smarter would try NOT to win, and survive, and therefore, the best ones would survive. That would make a civilization of smart people, not sport-oriented people.

So ya think they might need more than a carb sync to get going again? ;D
I'm guessing the river floods occasionally and burys them under rolling stones (sorry Mr Jagger). :)
What an awesome place to wander around.

Srust,

Is there a story behind all these wrecks? How'd they end up in a river in Montana of all places? Is it the local custom to dispose of them this way?

That's how they do it in Detroit (Detroit River). ;)

I pass this old jeep when I'm working in south TX.  It sits among a pile of other old jeeps and tractors way back in the woods.

Pic #2 is another jeep in the pile.  #1 is the only "complete" jeep.

Actually, the river situation aside, what you describe goes on across rural Michigan as well.

Great photos as usual Srust and your Chichen Itza pics reminded me of my own time there in Nov 2001 when I was riding round Mexico. I went up the main pyramid in my biker boots...not the best thing for those small steep stairs. The pile of stones/un-excavated ruins surrounding the pyramid and other complexes are just as interesting as the main area. You have to wonder how far they go into the jungle.

Another place with a ball court (smaller one) preserved is Yaxchillian on the Guatemalan border.

thanks and keep the pics/stories coming!
Andy

Andy,
Did you stay for the evening when they light up the main temple?  We were unable to but the pictures we saw of it were fantastic.  My dad's sister and her husband used to spend the winters touring Mexico on a Yamaha Venture for several years.  They said the drivers are crazy so I take it you got out in one piece. ;D
