You'd be surprised how long stuff lasts in a dry climate.  Old homestead's in the west last far longer than we do.  Here in the NW stuff kinda melts away after a generation or two of neglect, although I've seem some abandoned long houses in BC along the Inside Passage that have lasted a long time... cedar holds up pretty well.

Ha ha New Zealand isn't big enough to have abandoned buildings, if no one is using something someone else will move in and use it.
I just love this thread, man I win the Lottery I'm doing the USA tour on my bike. :D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Here is a shot of the U'mista Cultural Center in Alert Bay, BC.  The old buildings behind are abandoned, but the Cultural Center houses masks that were once "appropriated" by the Canadian government and then returned to the tribe.  Beautiful and remote.  I would love to take a bike up the Inside Passage on the Alaska Ferry system someday... leave from WA and go north making stops along the way.  You can camp on the outer decks of the ferry.

City Methodist church, downtown Gary, IN.  This building has been photographed a ton, but its still a fascinating space.  Me and an ex used to drive down quite a bit to shoot stuff.

Good eye, ;D Hush.

Good eye, indeed!  ;)

Here's one from a road trip I took by myself when I was 18.  I met up with my family in North Park, Colorado where my mom's side is from.  We stayed in some old cabins and it was a purely magical trip.  The Perseids meteor shower that August was the most amazing I've ever seen.  Gen-U-Wine stories told, but never the same way twice, twice.
