House in the cemetery near Berlin Ohio
it's sorta abandoned... the grounds keeper has a room upstairs, and a small "office" below it, he pretty much just makes sure no one vandalizes it.

The other photo is an Indian burial mound on a friends lakeshore property in central Minnesota. This property has been in his family for many years and at one time before much of the area was developed there were many more close by, now only three are left. They are now protected sites but 40-50 years ago when this area was developed and the road in the background put in little thought was given to these sites. This one is not as obvious in the photo but easier to see in person.

It must be quite amazing to hold in your hand a something another person held in their hand and shaped 1,000 years. Little would he guess someone else would be holding it 1,000 years later. I doubt any of our SOHCs or anything else I have made or owned will be around in 3009.

And I never thought I'd have an opportunity to post my arrowhead collection. Don't laugh, I made it when I was 8. Actually there's only one arrowhead (2 inches tall), the rest are pieces arrowheads and bits of knives... I have no idea how old they are, I used to collect with my uncle in North Park, CO when I was a kid. We used to find them around the dunes that sit along the base of the Medicine Bow Range. My grandparents have a box full of sharks teeth that they collected there in the 60's. Keep in mind, this is 10,000 ft elevation... sharks teeth.

I used to have a collection of sharks teeth that I found out in central KS. From what I understand the entire center of the US was under water at one time.... And to think, they're worried about global warming raising the level of the ocean!

Sadly, there are many abandoned homesteads in the U.P. of Michigan, and abandoned for some time. I've often wondered what the story was behind each that would cause one to just walk away. I'm sure most stories would have a basis in economics, but I'm sure each story had its differences as well.

srust58, are you using a 28mm lens in some of these shots? It's my favorite lens and what I shoot with the most, just looks like some of your photographs might be with the 28mm as well.

I have a digital SLR, but to be honest, I haven't taken any 'photographs' with it. All of my really good shots have been on my K1000. It's such a simple little machine. The light meter is blown, so I don't even use it. The shots a few pages back from my aunt and uncles ranch in North Park were taken with it. For some reason, I can't tell you why, the digital camera doesn't have the same presence in my hands and with my eye. I can't do the same things with it.

Exactly! I find that I don't take the time to compose and wait for the right light with the digital. I guess it is just carelessness because the "film" is free. With slide film your exposure has to be right on to make a good shot. Film has a bit more room for error and off course you only had so many shots. Something I need to work on to get my eye back.

I have a K1000 along with other SLRs very good camera. I want to post to this thread I find it one of the more fascinating. I hope to get some shots tomorrow.
