Burnt out....rant
« on: July 03, 2009, 07:46:11 PM »
I am burnt out at work, and so is my boss, which makes it worse.

I have not had a vacation in 3 years, don't get me wrong, I am glad to be working. But it seems that everyone around me thinks that they deserve more for doing less, but does not look around them to see the work the others do that make it possible for them to have a job.
I have been on the floor for the past couple of weeks. I could not belive the crap I found! >:( Our mantainence guy must think we are idiots. Everything he touched was a cobbled piece of crap. I finally called the proper people to get things fixed (which would increase producion, lessen down time, you know that stuff). I casually asked that M. Man why didn't he call "said" people to get these items fixed/quoted, he said, and I love this, I was not told to.??????????? You are the person called when there is problem, you know what the problem is, you know the people that can fix it, if it fixes a problem, we are all for it.....what am i missin??? God forbid, if you do call him in if he is off, he must think he works for a mulit-million dollar corporation or something, demanding that he gets super double triple overtime when he gets called. If it does not work, and has not worked, it your deal to get it fixed, not demand things because of your in ability to fix things. He is in managment, he does not need to ask... Holy Crap.

After this, my Quality manager is taking a 3 weeks vacation to Italy, guess who gets to fill in his place for those 3 weeks??. Yep...me.

I can just pay the bills, the wife just got 2nd job to help with her CC debt and she has not been able to contribute to the house hold bills, and I start my 2nd job next week.

Ok, I'm done.  I feel better now.
Thanks for listening. ;)

That sucks, man. Somewhere out there, someone is seeing your efforts and appreciating them. It may feel like you can't change anything, but what you do makes an impact, even if it isn't immediately seen or recognized by others.

what type of work do you do?
Funny thing about regret is...... its better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done.

Im a materials manager in a injection molding plant. But since we are small everyone wears several hats. I have worked there for about ten years so i'm an "old timer' . So in the past year since we have been slow I have been given more "hats" as people get layed off. I guess there is a down and an upside to know how to do just about anything at work.

Burke, I know a little of how you feel if it's any consolation.
Just wanted to add some information about "Maintainance Managers", here they're known as "Facilities Managers" and have, generally, the reputation of being incompetent as well as insolent. But woe-betide you if you should criticize his (non)work ethic. That busted airco unit in yr office? It'll NEVER get replaced!! You know the type. I've never seen ours with a tool in his hand, but luckily he's got a very pleasant, knowledgeable and efficient side-kick who gets next to eff-all pay-wise.
