I'm a kiwi, why would I celebrate the 4th day in the 7th month?

Probably some rollicking good old English celebration like Guy Fawkes, blowing the houses of parliament up...such a dashed good idea what!

Heh. My b'day is on Guy Fawkes day.  8) Kit and I watch V for Vendetta every year on that day...

We celebrated by moving my rear turn signals back to the license plate on my Sporty so I can put bags on her. Then we went to bluesfest at the waterfront and heard some awesome entertainers. Then like completely sane people do on the 4th of July, we got the hell outta dodge before the crushing crowd got there for the fireworks.  ;D

We went to the most  awesome fireworks display in downtown Nashville. It took place totally within a drenching windswept thunderstorm which ended exactly when we reached the car afterwards..2 soaked adults, 4 soaked kids...!
Whoops, happy American Independence Day..y'all got it 200 years before us poor Irish bastards...!

This year the crowds were huge at all displays. People are getting back to basics, Hometown celebrations and Parades.
The economy is resetting peoples priorities.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

At least some of us here get it! My town got together too. On the 2nd, we had a large cookout in the park and most of the town was there. burgers, dogs, snow cones, and cotton candy. Then the kids got to slide around on a huge plastic sheet that had water and baby shampoo on it followed by a water balloon fight.
Last night, a bunch of people closed off a couple streets to shoot fireworks as a large groups. We sat in our driveway and had some neighbors over. At 11pm, we set off these hot air balloon style fireworks. They use a flame to heat air and slowly climb and float away. A lot were launched in tribute to current and past veterans. In a time where people are worried about hanging onto their jobs and trying to support their families, it was a good night for use to come together.

Wow, what a blast from the past. My first and only 4th of july in american soil, 2002, waterfront park, downtown Nashville, in front of the Titans stadium -back them named Adelphia Coliseum- and close to the Hard Rock cafe, an scorching afternoon...

Caave- Intersting article. I took early an american history class in college (it covered up to the civil war). Our prof told us we can read the book if we wanted but he's gonna tell us what actually happened, instead of what the rich white guys said happened. That was one of the best classes I've ever taken and I learned more in that one semester than I did in my whole life of history classes. It was also the only class that everyone showed up for everyday.  ::) What you just posted was more truth than most can handle, but it is still the truth. I love our country too, I just don't always approve of the motives that drive how we deal with outside countries or each other.

and btw... Did anyone else notice that the ERA was never passed? Women still don't officially have the same rights as men in the great USA... shameful. :( The fact that we would ever have to actually add an amendment in order to bestow equal rights in a "free and equal" country, especially in this day and age, just blows my mind.

I know this will probably get me flamed hard but it had to be said.

Most of the founding fathers of our beloved country were free masons.
Founder of the Scottish Right Free Masons here was also the founder of the Klu Klux Klan.

I'm just sayin'...

And slave owners to boot.  Though it is not fair to judge them with today's sensibilities.  They don't come off looking to good if you do but they were the liberal progressives of their time and laid the foundation that our country was built on.

We spent the 4th with friends at their remote lake cabin in northern Minnesota.  Good meals, conversation, bottles of wine, and our own personal fireworks display.

Most of what is in that article is mostly claptrap based on some fact, and I will elaborate later. BTW Scottish Rite Freemasonary existed in 1733 which predates the KKK by a 132 years.

Let me rephrase- Pike had a great deal to do with the formation of the modern Scottish Rite in America and the formation of the KKK.

Let me rephrase- Pike had a great deal to do with the formation of the modern Scottish Rite in America and the formation of the KKK.
Albert Pike's work on the Morals and Dogma of Scottish Rite Freemasonry was only used in the Southern Jurisdiction, it was not used in the Northern Juisdiction at anytime. It's use was discontinued in 1974. He did not form Scottish Rite Fremasonary in the U.S., his work and influence was in the South. Freemasonay in the US is governed by the Grand Lodge of each State unlike Europe. Each Grand Lodge recognizes the other as Masonic. When the Grand Lodge of NY and several other States became intergrated, the Grand Lodge of Alabama removed thier recognition. Therefore I would have been considered "clandestine" in that State and barred from meetings. Freemasonary is not monolithic througout the US and the World. It does make good copy for writers, who have run out of Black Helicopeter tales.
