Topic: Cleaning the caliper - part deux

So Simple Green took off most of the caked on crud inside the caliper but the inner surface is a tad rough - especially inside the caliper seal groove.

Synthetic 0000 steel wool isn't aggressive enough. I don't want to hit it w/ sand paper.

I was thinking of running a Dremel felt or cloth polishing wheel around the groove. I'm guessing the wire wheel would be too rough & remove too much material from the caliper. But the cloth wheel should be more gentile.

Have a brass wire wheel for the Dremel? (I have a couple that came in some super-mega Dremel bit kit I scored at Costco many moons ago)  Should be a lot easier on the aluminum. . ..

I believe I used wet/dry crocus cloth that I oiled. I don't know what the grit rating of crocus cloth is. Next to nothing. This allowed me to just clean it up rather than attempt to be abrasive. It also allowed me to cover the full length of the bore at one time so as not to hit just 1/8-1/4" sections at a time like a dremel would which might unevenly groove it slightly.
