WTF-why are finned covers getting so pricey?
« on: July 05, 2009, 03:42:59 PM »
Just noticed a set of these has gone up in price at least $100 lately:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290327024431&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:MOTORS:1123

At that price, I'll have a machine shop mill me some! :P

Well, there are different types. Those shown in the link are old school, low profile ones, which are in demand. The basic ones you see all over Eb&y have taller fins and some consider to be tacky. Plus, "Cafe" bikes are all the rage these days...Didn't you know?!?!?

Milling your own is a great idea!!

Nothing says "cool" like hand build parts.  ;)

I have a whole set of finned crap for a 750 I'm going to sell soon. Stator, points, clutch, tappet covers, and even the damned starter motor cover. WTF? Someone went apesh!t with the fined crap on this. I'll let you guys know when I take em off the bike. It wont be the $150 bucks that crap is going for (for just 2 covers, no less) on fleabay.
I really don't like the finned stuff. Hell, I'd prolly trade em straight across for stock parts :/

I've seen used starter covers go for $100.
You just may find someone to give you that kind of $$$ w\o asking.

Some people are stupid and should be slapped...HA!!  ;D
