Naked Frame

On my 74' CB360, I stripped the frame this weekend and thought it looked pretty cool all bare metal and rusty, I thought of leaving it like that and just keep it coated with oil or a clear. (I primered it but am thinking of stripping it again). I'm going for a Rat Rod/hot rod look.
 
Has any one ever done this? If so any issues besides rust?

I think it would be pretty neat, had thought of this also at one point. I can't think of any major issues aside from the rust, but can't be sure. I know that people have done it with their gas tanks before, all you may need is a good clear coat to go over it. Make sure you add some pics  ;D

Yea I would agree it all depends on the look you are going for. What ever you do, don't go with a gloss clear coat, stick to flat or Semi Gloss it makes for a better transition between bare metal and any rust color you leave behind.

Rust can still bubble clear coat depending on how bad it is.  Just make sure there is no way that rust can get oxygen

You can also do a clear powder coat.  Any way you do it, you will want to strip the frame to the bare metal and immediately seal it with some form of paint or powder coat.  If you miss any bits of oxidation, they will be there for you to see afterward -- preserved for posterity.  Alternatively, you could chrome plate the frame or use a bare metal looking powder coat color.

I think if you left it bare and wiped it down with WD-40 or something similar every now and then, you'd be good.
I have a buddy that has a HD with a bare frame - been that way for at least 10 years now....
All he does for maintenance is a scotch brite & WD-40

I was going to try the bare metal with a tank and see if a good wax/polish holds off the rust.  Seems a bit high maintenance for a frame though.  I have heard that a clear coat of paint wont stick well.  If so, I think the clear powder coat may be the way to go.

Let us know what you do and how well (or not well) it works.
