Vertical "Superbike" gauge needles
« on: July 06, 2009, 12:00:19 PM »
I know I saw someone that did this with their SOHC/4, but I can't for the life of me track it down. Basically, they were custom gauge faces with the speedo and tach needles' zero points straight down. Does anyone have an idea who did this?

Check out MikeB4's bike in the June BOTM thread.

I think it was his that was done up this way....

IIRC he got them from another member on here who does the faces but not sure what the rest of the mod process is...I am sure he would respond to a PM or maybe we can throw something in the Tips and Tricks forum.

It should just be a matter of whether or not the needles are "keyed." If they just press-fit onto a round post, then all you'd have to do is make a gauge face with the correct spacing and the zero point at the bottom. Then when you install the needle, do it pointing downwards. It might be a bit more trouble if the needle has a flat spot or key that's supposed to align it in a specific position. Perhaps someone that's pulled the needles before can chime in.

Nope. :)

If they just press-fit onto a round post,

Yup.  :)

I am in the process of rebuilding my gauges like this.  Got the faces from ebay user    roberth9.  You just push the needles on where you want em.  Easy as pie.  I added a ring of leds beneath the face, replacing the 2 bulbs.  I will post some pics once I get them back together.

That's a pretty sweet tank. What's the little depression for? To hold loose change?

Good catch.

I think it's where you rest your chin when you tuck down low to the tank as you roar down the track...

I found his store on eBay.

$31 shipped for gauge faces. Paint the faces any color, the overlays in his auctions that picture white-face gauges are clear.

They are not quite clear.  They are more like translucent.  But, you could paint the gauges whatever color, and it will show through.  According to the documentation that comes with the faces, white is required for the red parts to show red.

I looked but he doesn't seem to have any for a 550.
Keep it shinny side up.
