Fuel Tap questions - ??
« on: July 05, 2009, 10:10:21 PM »
Thanks in advance for replies

I have just taken the fuel tap off my fuel tank, to flush out the junk and give it a general clean.. bits of rust sediment removed and overall its ok....however the fuel tap wasn't leaking, but after inspection I noticed a degraded style washer between the threads of the nut mounting of the fuel tap...it had nearly disintegrated would be the best word to describe its condition. I removed the remaing bits out, but am now unsure if the tap will reseal...

Q1: Do I need to replace the washer with a fuel resistant washer ??

Q2: Do I need to replace the whole fuel tap ??

Q3: If "YES" to Q2 - anyone got one for sale ??

Q4: Can anyone suggest an aftermarket or alternate high flow tap that will fit ??

Bike in question is a 1975 cb750 F1 BUT has a 1978 F2 tank...

I just picked up a new o-ring for the lower bowl on my petcock('70 CB 750 k0) from my local Honda parts counter. Honda stills supplies this part.

I've also seen petcock rebuild kits on ebay for as little as $10.00, plus the shipping of course, man we really get screwed on that.

Replace the O-ring inside the petcock and the washer... Take the old one to your supply store or auto part store and buy similar; that should do the trick.
As for getting screwed, I was looking at ordering a fuel strainer as I discovered mine floating in the tank. My favorite online store has the part for $23 and shipment around $15...  :'(
I will wait until I need something else and go with a bulk order worth paying shipment. Until then I will try to remember that I won't have a 'Reserve'.
