Have you had trouble with Priority Mail?
« on: July 07, 2009, 07:31:16 AM »
I have been using Priority Mail to ship all the Hondaman Ignitions, and it's been reliable. Until now, apparently...I sent one out on 6/25/09 to one of our members, and he hasn't received it yet ((7/7/09). I'm afraid it's lost, and the Post Office doesn't offer any tracking on Priority Mail boxes (that I know of, anyway).

Has anyone else had trouble with this service? If it's getting to be a common thing, I'm going to have to switch to something more expensive to ship, and undoubtedly slower...  >:(

The whole point of this Igintion has been to save SOHC4 riders $$$...

No problem here. They usually arrive a day early to every where I send them.
Post office sometimes loses things unfortunately.

I haven't had any issues with priority mail yet, hopefully it's just a fluke.

I know this won't help with the current problem, but if you print your postage from the usps website delivery confirmation is free.  Otherwise it's $0.70 if you get it at the P.O.

I have never had an issue with Priority Mail. It used to be the BEST deal out there but due to the recent pricing structure, it is less so. Still worth it though as I HATE UPS.

yes, once.  i only ship priority mail. custom built fly rods is my other hobby.
the only way i was able to track it down, was to go back to the place i shipped it from, and had them track it down.  stay on them.  its insured so let them know if its lost you'll be filing a claim.  there are always a few postal stops before the final destination.  they can check to see that a package hit those destinations(by looking at the final destination zip)

dont give up.  turns out my package got stuck in a conveyor and it damaged the "ship-to" label.

The clerk at the counter told me there was "no way to track a Priority Mail package unless it is registered."
Should I go talk to a different postal employee, like when you're trying to get IRS info?  >:(

Thanks, Gordon: maybe I'll try that next.
I can't see charging everyone $3 for the USPS insurance on a $70 package.  :-\

yes, i would go talk to someone else.
they have to input destination zip code to calculate postage fees.
it has to hit different mail stops on its way to your customer.
you will need to find out what those stops are, and contact, or better yet have a postal employee contact the stops to look for it.
its probably sitting somewhere, or on someones desk, and it just takes someone getting off their @$$ to look for it for you.
as far as i recall, priority already has $100 ins with it.
no need to buy more if cost is under $100.

Mark, I have never had a problem with the mail, but then again, sometime if it is going through customs it can be a pain.

I ship a lot of parts using USPS, mainly for overseas clients and it's true that you cannot track a Priority Mail item. Have you considered Express? you can track those and they only cost a little more in most cases and they ship quicker.

last Christmas I had 2 of 3 packages 'lost' via Priority Mail.
With the tracking #'s they managed to trace it to White River Junction, Vt
where they were stolen.
USPS caught the guy, but I never got my parts back. ???
Only the value of the parts.

It's fast, guaranteed delivery by X time and as was mentioned can be tracked. It can be used domestically as well as internationally and I believe it is insured. I use it often for overseas shipments. It would work well for your unitsThe only problems I've had are boxes being held in Customs. SamCR had a much worse experience involving stolen registered letters addressed to me.

I always use "delivery confirmation" for .65-.75 cents.  It is something I advise up front the customer will pay.  Then I provide the tracking number and they can track the parcel on their computer.  Never had an issue.

I ran my entire online business through USPS and priority mail, I shipped 100s of items through them and can tell you they always have the lowest price and fastest shipping times + they deliver on saturday (ups will but it's complicated). The one problem I had with them involved an international order where according to a customer he never received a $400+ order, although USPS said they delivered it. Never really found out what happened there but that turned into a headache. IMO they're still the best shipping company around.
