Oil filter element for 1975 CB550
« on: November 12, 2005, 08:35:30 AM »
Hello all,
This is my first post on this board. I did some searching on here and on greenspun but didn't find what I was looking for.

My question is this: Will the Fram CH6009 work on the 75' CB550? The book at store only list from 76' up. Also, are there other alternatives?

Thank you,
DiscoEd

Ed - is that avatar cool or what ??

We must have been posting at the same time.

What's a FRam CH6009?  Where did you buy it and what does it look like?

If you look at my newest FAQ, you'll see that the std filter fits most 70's Hondas (350/4 to Goldwing) and quite a few Kwaks!

Check the FAQ under parts suppliers.  There are plenty of online retailers that sell these oil filters, or you could get one from the local stealer.

Steve,

Thanks for the comment about the Avatar!

The CH6009 is a filter that is sold at the local Walmart for $3.69. It comes with o-rings. I didn't buy one yet because I wanted to know if others had experience with this filter or not. From what I can see it looks like the standard Honda element, but I have not compared dimensions.

Gordon,
Thanks for the reply. I just thought that I would try to find something local before shelling out more than the filter is worth in shipping costs.

Ed,
I'm using that filter on my 750 ('75 CB750F). I believe that the 500/550 and 750 SOHC's all use the same filter. Not 100% sure however.
Yes, I also got it as Walmart.

Ed - FYI
FRAM reference on package Replaces Honda 15412-300-024, 15412-300-325
These are "750" part numbers. The "300" is a 750 model code if you are not familiar with Honda's numbering system.

From my CB500K2 parts book:
Element, oil filter 15412-300-024, superseded by 15412-300-325 (their spelling, not mine)

I don't have a 550 book but it looks kind of obvious. Check your owners' manual if you have one.

The 6009 was the filter used right up to and including the Honda DOHC fours.

Sounds good.

Take a picture of what you get for your money and I'll post in the FAQs as the "WalMart" route...

(We have WalMart here too but I've never seen any motorcycle parts there.)

My question is this: Will the Fram CH6009 work on the 75' CB550?

Yes, that filter works fine in the CB550.  Does on all mine, anyway.

Anyway, that's great news. I guess I'll be picking up the CH6009 filter at Walmart tomorrow.

Be more specific.

Just coz its in the FAQs doesn't mean its correct - they are a collection of Frequently Asked Questions and the answers will naturally reflect the views of those on the board who wrote them.

If you've better info, post it in "Content Submission" or PM it to Glenn, Harry or me.

There are also similar pics which I posted in the Oil Filter FAQ http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=5365.0

Gladly, I only paid $3.67 for the one I bought at Wally world...

...However, I think I like the box that csendker's filter came in better.

Lordy!  I just got home and checked my reciept.  Thankfully, I only paid $3.67 too.  Yeeesh, I thought I was getting ripped off $0.02 for some fancy packaging.  Of course, the 8.25% NYS sales tax probably ate up more than that.
