1976 CB550 F new Points/Coil problem.
« on: July 13, 2009, 08:04:02 PM »
Well I just replaced my coils with new ones from C2C and the coils are dixie coils. I also replaced the points some time ago but they hardly have any time on them. Below are pictures of the current setup, does anyone see any thing off hand that could be wrong? I had spark now I don't and only had spark on one of the coils and now they get really warm, almost hot. So I disconnected the battery for now so no damage can be done before I find out what is wrong. Any advice would be very helpful. I have tried connecting them to the points and bypassing the wire harness wires to be sure there were no shorts, I also tested the wires and did not find shorts and I am getting current to the coils.

1975 CB550F all standard motor parts no aftermarket mods of any kind.

Thanks!

Your wiring is wrong: the points wires are shorted to ground. Study this picture and you will see how to wire them. Ignore the extra GREEN wire you see in the picture: that's from my Electronic Ignition.
