Still need brake help :(
« on: July 07, 2009, 02:20:23 PM »
I changed the inner seal and when I push the brake pedal it goes all the way down and the piston is only moving a hair. I can tell that fluid is getting to the caliper because I filled reservoir and some went to the caliper. Do I have to take it all apart, make sure everything is flowing as it should and put it back together? I got a crappy little bleeder, but the thing doesn't even seem to work for this caliper.

I would kill for a back up bike right now.

reads like you need to bleed air from system, have you opened the bleed valve a crack and pumped the lever down?

Is it air bubble free?

Well that would be my problem then. I'm waiting on speed bleeders 'cause the bleeder is rounded off and f'ed up, so I can't get it to screw out. Thnx PO.

If you can't get the bleeder loose then how are you going to get the new bleeder in??  Use Vice grips I guess.

You definatley have air in the system. If your vacuum bleeder isn't any good, you can reverse bleed it by using a syringe (small turkey baster, don't tell the missus!) and force fluid UP from the bleeder at the caliper. This works very well to get the master cylinder full and forces the air bubble up instead of trying to suck it down. make sure the rez is not full when you start so that there is room for more fluid to enter. Also use fresh fluid from and unopened bottle.

Make sure to rinse off any spilled fluid immediately as it will eat the paint.

I was going to try to heat it up with a butane torch and get it out. The stripped screw extractor just cracked the top of the bleeder.

Happened to me too on my F3.

I ended up picking up a new rear brake on ebay for $30 shipped.

There's one up there now!

Those calipers are the same on the front and the back aren't they?
