I had made mention previously about an old lathe that was from my Granddad's motorcycle shop. Well, I found the manual for that lathe and it was printed in 1937! It's called" The Modern Screwcutting Lathe and as I get more information, I'll pass it on, including photos, as soon as I can get them AND get to where I can download and post them. If there is anybody who has some insight as to more info than I might be able to get from the manual and the lathe itself, feel free to post it. ;)

Found this Bill:

Seems to me they later were sold under the craftsman name at Sears.

Take care, Matt.

You should be able to find plenty of info on an Atlas Bill. I have a 12" swing Logan that is about 60 years old and I was able to get the factory manual, parts etc

Bill check last printing date near the front..

The SOUTH BEND "How to Run a Lathe" is a delightful read, it has been in print forever, but still looks like an old book (did till the 70s).. I think it covers a bit more than the Atlas book, but I may be wrong.

Atlas and South Bends from the 30s look a lot like ones from the 60s.

I hope you end up USING it, and ENJOYING it.. some people get lathes and dont really use them enough to make it worthwhile.

Thanks alot guys, I do hope to be able to get to where I can do things with the lathe. I remember my Granddad using it way back in the late 50's and early 60's. Really a shame that I didn't get the boring bar, when I had the chance, in the early 70's, when my Dad offered it to me for $100. Dumb me, I didn't think I'd have the use for it. ::) I am really going to check out the links and the book that was mentioned here.

                            Thanks again, Bill
