This is an interesting posting on CL. At $19K a pop, I should quit my day job and try rebuilding bikes.

not bad, especially the lenght and guiding of the clutch cable.
Never have seen it this way before.

But, should there be a buyer who is willing to pay the requested price,....why not?

About once a year to get a new chrome oil filter for the Fat Boy. Never needed any other repair parts. Was there 2 weeks ago. Checked out the BMWs, Aprilias, Ducatis. Doesn't look like they sell cheap bikes.

Stock 750 engine in a pretty frame with Carpy's tank and seat... for $20,000? Wow, i'm glad I got my order in for that same tank and seat, its a better investment than i thought! I owe my wife an "I toldya so!"

$19K for a bike that is mostly cheap parts and shoddy workmanship. really? is this what our hobby has become?

you may not like HD but for the price at least their parts are somewhat better quality.

Those shocks are sh1t
the pipe is cheap
the cables are stock
the ebay special fixed clubman bar (ick) is installed upsidedown
stock pegs and controls
stock cables
16" rim.

oh and it is ugly to boot.

Hey, that slogan is at least worth couple grand.

But honestly, I think it is nice looking. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all. But it's clearly unanimous, at least here, that it is not worth $20k.

Is that a mac exhaust?

yup mac pipe.

my cb550 chop used to say "rice rocket" on the tank. The difference is it was lettered in 1977 by someone under the influence of heavy illegal pharmaceuticals.

this bike was done recently under the influence of....well....I guess you would have to be on some strong drugs because I can't think of anything gayer than maybe a mural of two dudes kissing.

I wouldn't care if my CB was in my family for 35 years either. If I thought I could get $19 grand for it, my next parts purchase would be a big FOR SALE sign. Maybe the CB market will be the next bubble in Florida now that real estate values have dropped like a bomb.

But this does look like little more than 'my first cafe' project to me. There's really nothing cool about it. I was at least expecting a built engine or some machined parts. Do they cafe race in Florida?

Correct me if I am wrong but couldn't you get a much nicer more custom 750 from Carpy? I have seen his work and chatted with him via email, at least you would get real quality work from some one with a passion for CB750's. I would not pay that, but don't go by me since I would not pay 20k for a HD or any bike, however people do it all the time. Go figure. At least in Florida they can ride all year around. Here we get 3 months maybe 4.. Not a bad bike even tho its Dark Hot Pink.. and all.

what do you think the market is for a good custom cb? something like what carpy does for about 6 to 8 grand? seems like a much better deal than any new bike in that range. and a better deal than some 'custom' bobber from one of the big builders for 15-20 grand

my bike looks cooler than that, and it's probably worth 2 or 3 grand....
the tank and seat look cheaply thrown on it. and ....yeah that clutch cable must have been on the ape hangers it came with.
that pipe isn't exactly top of the line either.
"nice" shocks i guess, if all you want is looks.
I say the bike is worth $4500 tops.

I have a carpy tank and seat and the seat is kinda... um.... not so great.
seat had a big separation in the glass on one corner that I didn't notice till I dropped it and it cracked off.

and when i put the tank on i had to make an inch of spacers and "c" brackets to mount it, and there was no place to put a petcock, I had to guess and cut out the fiberglass on the bottom of the tank to get to the chunk of aluminum underneath, where there was three holes for the petcock.
ridiculous amount of work for me to do for a $600 tank.

pfff- whatever, I'm gonna go ride my cheap reliable bike now.

No if Carpy built that bike, it wouldnt say Cafe Racer on the tail, it'd say Cafe Ricer.

...well, not just on the tail, but on the side covers, tank, and front fender.
