Was it the easy beats that had the US hit of Bowie's "Friday on my mind"?

You mean Bowie had a US hit with the easybeats song..... ;)

Keeping the Aus theme....Russell sings better now than he ever did, have seen him live a couple of times recently and he is just plain awesome....

Just got done watching the Cameron Crowe documentary of PearlJam.

Think I listened to "Porch" off their debut about 3 time in a row on the way to work this morning.

I think I'll keep it a Pearl Jam day and listen to "Life Wasted" penned for Johnny Ramone off the self-title PearlJam record (the one with the avacado on the cover) on the way home.

Both of those make me want to drive fast.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

RetroRocket - Deliverance is an awesome track!  Their tour for 'Heritage' was sans-growl. NOT ONE!  They played at least one track from each album, so there was great variety.  Lots of people digging the new sound.  lots of followers hating and wanting more Damnation and Ghost Reveries-like music. If you dont like the growls, but like the music Opeth puts out, check out the Heritage album.  its not the norm for them.  more Prog/Jazz.  Good stuff.  though it to 2-3 listens before i decided to add it into my regular rotation.
Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) was definitely an influence on this album.
