Holy Head Crap Batman
« on: October 14, 2009, 06:52:31 AM »
So I have been trying for a while to get my dads 79 650 to start.  It turns freely, and it almost started several times.  Well yesterday I decided to run a compression check and found low compression all around. The PO loved red silicon.  ::)

I pulled the head and found mountains of crap sitting on 2 of the pistons and a TON of junk in the number one exhaust port.

It was full to the top with corrosion that looked like what you find on a battery terminal.  I used a few different things to get that out of there, but navel jelly seemed to work the best.

I have never seen anything like that before.  I guess todays mission is to pull the piston rings and clean all of that crap up.   Yaaaay

At least it wasn't clear, red is easier to find.  :)

Be sure to clean out ALL of the oiling jets and stuff. My last CB was put together with that crap and it clogged oil jets which starved the top end and made the camshaft grind through the cradles that hold it.
