Pinhead, I sometime wonder if dog insurance is worth the paper it's written on. Our third dog, Sam, had respiratory problems but to get our business the insurer took us on. But the small print said that we had to report to them, in writing, every anomaly Sam had healthwise during the course of the year. That meant every colourful fart, every loose bowel movement, every loss of appetite, everything. Of course we didn't. When he died, we had rushed him to a Bernese Mountain Dog specialist to see if she could save him. The bill came to £1200. The insurers told us to take a hike. Letters whizzed to and fro between us and them for 6 months and in the end they offered a paltry fraction of the total cost.
But for peace of mind we still insure our dog, albeit with another insurer.
