350F : The 1000 mile report...
« on: July 10, 2009, 12:40:47 PM »
Just over 1000 miles on the '72 350F I got back on the road earlier this year.  I was hoping to change the oil and filter but the local shop didn't have any so it's on order.

First photo is of my forks, I think my fork seals are leaking.  I ordered new seals and dust covers today.  I hope that's all I needed.  The dust covers were more than I thought..

In my rush to get this on the road, I sometimes used a hodgepodge of nuts and bolts.  Example is my front fender, ordered correct bolts today too.

My headlight ears are crusty too, this is a rider though...

My side cover baffles me a little.  Do you see how it's cocked up in the front?  I thought I had the cover mount backwards but that didn't cure it either.  I have a darker color that better matches the paint that I'm going to try but the seating of this thing still baffles me.  I know in it's past life this bike was wrecked, maybe the mount is knocked out of whack..

My speede returned to life... sort of.  Odometer works ok but the speed isn't anywhere close at normal operating speeds.

Tachometer cable leaks oil.  The may not even be a seal in it.  I ordered one of these too..

And last but not least, the steering stop.  I took this to have it welded a while back but the guy was too busy to do it and I didn't feel like waiting.

Overall, the bike has run great.  I get a lot of attention with it.  The only time I have any issue while running is when downshifting, it will gurgle sometimes if I hit the throttle.  If I roll the throttle on real slow it doesn't do it, or do it as bad.  And I can't say enough about the need for a clean fuel delivery system.  I thought mine was acceptable until I lined the tank.  It's a lot of fun, but a rider for sure.  Lot of semi rusted bolts, etc.

And almost forgot, a misrouted battery overflow tube put battery acid on my exhaust.  I had to modify it a bit.  30/30 bike:  Looks ok at 30 yards or 30MPH!

*edit* I forgot to mention my main fuse issue.  I haven't blown one yet after I cleaned the fuse connectors really good.  It's been well over 100 miles (but I keep spares)...

Over all a good runner. Nice looking bike for a daily runner. With a little work over the winter it can look really good.

Nice one! 1200 mi on my350F just this spring.
for your side cover, it doesnt look like its sitting down properly on the front mount.
either that, or the twistlock on the bottom is out of line...

It's possible I ordered the wrong thing but it was 24 and 25 in this picture.  Also, this is the shop that showed oil filters in stock but didn't have any....
