My wife and I decided to give up smoking when I finished working in Oz and came back to the UK to retire.
4 years later we were still smoking, however we did not smoke in the house or car to help cut down, stop both places stinking and to save me decorating, this got me down to 20/day and my wife to 30/day.
Then my wife decided enough was enough, in the UK the National Health Service (NHS) provides a service for those that want to quit smoking, my wife went to see the "smoking" nurse and came home with a course of Champix tablets, she quit in Feb 2009 and has never looked back, she had been smoking like me for 40 plus years.
I did not really, passionately want to give up, my wife's incentive was money (£5/day or $8) mine was purely for health reasons but I duly went to see the smoking nurse, got my Champix and gave up in early May, haven't looked back since. We went on holiday in June and hung around with about 10 other people in the bar every night and they all smoked, didn't bother either of us.
The one thing that I will not do is preach about quiting to smokers as I always used to hate that !
The big disapointment is that I do not feel any healthier and the times for my daily bicycle ride do not get any faster.
Cheers
