New to the forum & the CB 750
« on: July 11, 2009, 06:29:43 PM »
I just signed up here a few weeks ago, and have already found the answers to alot of questions by searching around.    After a long wait, I just got my first SOHC4, a '76 CB 750.  We just put the motor back in last week, and I'm currently stuck on the wiring.

I don't have much skill in the electricity area, but have been doing a ton of reading, lately.  It's starting to make more sense.....slowly.   I printed out a full color wiring schematic for my bike, and picked up a copy of a simplified wiring setup from King's custom cycle.  Now I just need to figure out how to set it up ???

I picked this bike up for $500, and the electricity is proving to be the biggest problem area for me so far.  I believe the starter button/on off switch assembly is from a different bike, and it doesn't matter anyway because it's missing the starter button & the guts inside.  Actually both of the switches that came with it have been gutted of parts, and wires have been cut off.

I would like to go with a bare bones setup (don't even need the electric starter).  I would also like to run an on/off dimmer switch seperately for my head light.  Can anyone recommend a place to find some cheap switches?? and/or provide some pics of their simplified electrics setup?  A pic is worth a thousand words.

The electrics on these are pretty cut and dry . Simple stuff . I'm an idiot to electrics and figured it . Just takes some patience .  One thing ( at least for me ) is a notorious losing battle is the leaky valve cover gasket . It'll happen . I just have a special pair of jeans dedicated to my bike .
I don't even use my electric start . My button broke and don't even care . Kicking's way cooler anyway.

a leaky valve cover gasket would definitely suck, considering I just replaced mine!!

Congratz on the new ride, as for the wiring I am still going around and around with it. I am sure you will get it at some point. Plus the help here is just incredible. Enjoy your ride!
