I seem to remember seeing a entire points plate and points and condensors on ebay for around that price.
Maybe last year?

try this link https://www.partsnmore.com/cat_index.php?model=cb750_sohc&category=electrical there's a lot of cheaper priced parts there.

I would probably spring for the original plate, I haven't dealt with the cheaper plates but I hear that they are made of cheaper metal and may not read correctly.( i.e. stamped points and a softer plate) I have bought a points set for around 10 or 15 bucks at a swap meet and after buying an OEM part and seeing the points I bought before they don't even compare to stock.

My apologies... $50 at Bike Bandit for my 74 750... I ended up springing for the Dyna S and didn't get the assembly.

Sorry, I missed the 550 part try this (same site) https://www.partsnmore.com/cat_index.php?model=cb550&category=electrical you should be able to find a lot of good stuff there. but keep in mind of the stock parts i mentioned above as I modified my last statement.

i dont know if it is the original plate but i will prolly get it from hondapartsnation

i am not sure i even need the actual plate, i just know my screws are in bad shape and i want to get new points and condensers for the hondaman ignition i just bought, so i figured it would be cheaper getting the whole setup

it looks like a stamped plate so it may be a cheaper one, the good plates have a kind of reverse diamond plate texture on them like these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OEM-1974-78-HONDA-CB550-Motorcycle-POINTS-Assembly_W0QQitemZ390068221622QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090713?IMSfp=TL0907131910011r15581
(these are what I am talking about, these are used but the style is stock). If you have a local Honda dealership around look for what they are pricing them at. I think I got mine for around $60, a little more but well worth it
