CB160 Pods?
« on: July 12, 2009, 08:48:23 PM »
As my 350F restoration has come to an end (rebuilt motor, lost of paint, oem pipes, etc, pics to come soon - fired right on on Friday!), I have already ordered my next project - a CB160 that I plan on cafe-ing.

I have a question before even getting it- Anyone know any information about pots / jetting for this bike? I was surprised to find no information via Google.

Thanks!

From the Honda Manual -

I have installed pods on my CB160, and the jets are standard right now.  It doesn't have the standard pistons though, as the PO had some oversized Wisco pistons installed.  Although it runs strong, it is a bit temperamental and I'm pretty sure the jetting is still rich.  Haven't got around to fine-tuning it yet and with my non-standard configuration, I can't offer any advice other than you'll have to experiment and let us know.

BTW, I'm having too much fun on my CB350F to worry about fine-tuning the CB160.

I've got a 350F as well! I will let you know what I come up with. I found this page today, which has what looks to be some interesting links in the "tech" section, but I haven't dove into it yet as I'm busy at work...

Try www.hondatwins.com, under the resources section.

There they have the shop manual, with spec sizes for idle and main jets.

I believe the mains are #95. Don't know about the idles though.

I'm running pods on my 175, with turnout mufflers and cherry bomb baffles from JC Whitney. Stock jets right now, but to get it running right I think I'll have to move the needle clip up one, and the jets up to #98 or #100. Trial and error, but that's what makes it fun! Hope this helps...

Uh... those mufflers look SICK. Very understated. I've been wondering what I'm going to do with mine- this might be it.

Do you have video of how they sound?

Look how pretty my CL160 is right now:

Here ya go!!!

And here's a photo of what my 175 looked like about 6 weeks ago when I started this overhaul:

Trust me. It was pretty beat up. Crazy rusty, nuts bolts, gunky chain, flat tires and tubes... I've seen much worse. You can do it man! And if you need any help, tips, pointers, that's what I - and the rest of this forum - is here for  ;)

I already know I have to pull the top end of the motor as one of the spark plug holes is stripped out. I'm not worried about it though, it's going to be my second bike, the one that I'm not afraid to scratch up. See my signature for pics of my CB350F build I just finished- that was a major project. This is going to be done on the cheap.

I remember reading a post on the dotheton forums where a guy stripped his spark plug screws. Apparently you can walk right into Napa, or any other auto parts store and they can hook you up with a special plug or kit that remedies this?

I stripped the first 2-3 threads in my left cylinders spark hole. Oops. Just gotta be super careful every time I remove/insert a plug - which lately has been A LOT. Luckily, you can find these heads for a reasonable price. Do a national Craigslist search. That's how I found my engine  ;D

I can't imagine how a kit would remedy this safely.

It's just the first few threads in my left hole too, coincidently, but I can't seem to thread a plug in so I think I'm going to have to pull the motor.
