Yuasa is very good. Some have been using AGM batteries though. AGM is a type, not a brand. It stands for absorbed glass mat. It can be mounted in any position and will not leak. They also have more cranking amps than the average lead-acid or maintenance-free.

It's a time tested, good quality, reliable brand.  But there are also many other options now besides the standard maintenance type battery, if you're looking for a range of choices.

As long as you don't have a need for a special battery for custom placement, then I don't think you'll be disappointed.

It seems like Yuasa has (perhaps had) the best quality control in their manufacturing process.  It's mostly about the purity of the lead used in the plates, which has been getting worse in recent years due to lead recyclers.

If you have a 550, spring the extra for the YB-12 (something) version. There is more internal plate area in that variant and fits into the same space.

Do everyone a favor and get a maintenance free, there is a direct replacement, original battery will eventually get acid somewhere, plus you have to check and maintain them, original was 12N14-3A,then we used YB14L-A2,now the Yuasa # is CTX14AHL.Bill Benton

If you're worried about acid getting somewhere, maybe you should get a catch tank?  even a maintenance free battery has a vent...

Gee, how come I've used wet cell batteries since the 70's and never have gotten "acid everywhere"?

Of course, I *have* made sure the vent hose was installed and properly routed.  They even give you a new vent hose with every new battery.  It's not just an extra part to be thrown away.  (to some, at least)

Amazing, the stories you hear on this forum.

Did you try any non-dealer bike parts/accessory shops?

Of course they have a vent, just not ness for vent hose or adding water,it was not my battery I was thinking about just all the ruined stuff I have seen over the years from inexperienced riders. My batteries do have catch bottles, the point was why not use something better?Bill Benton

No acid leak is a primary reason I use AGM batteries.
