1967 Honda S90 project.
« on: July 13, 2009, 10:20:40 PM »
I have had this bike for well over 12 years, for all of them it has sit outside. Now I think it is time to start to see if it can be brought back to life. If anyone has any part sources other than Ebay, please provide.

Well I have got the bike all dis-assembled.

First on the list is the carb. Does this look good?  ;D

Belive it or not, I have removed everything except the air screw and only broke the tip of the slow jet inside the carb body which I think will come out with a long soak in carb cleaner. To remove all the "white" powder I soaked the parts in vinegar for 2 hours which did a very good job.

I'll post after pictures this weekend.

Thanks! I have wanted to restore this bike for years but kept putting it off to work on other bike projects. So far the best source for parts seems to be the far east (asia) which is OK, at least the first few items I have bought have arrived in good time in good shape.

Tom..Up here in Benicia..20 minutes from Frisco!
Do a craigslist search..very easy to find parts..they come and go..fun lil motors..lots of speed for such a little package
I LOVE MY CL90! heh heh..i've got a guy who deals in CL/S90 parts down in San Jose..keep a list and i'll ask him when you
get farther along..dealers stock quite a bit for these bikes to..at least mine does! chain cost me $20, Battery-$20..fuses $5..levers cheap..at least you had the good sense to NOT get rid of one of the funnest bikes around...S90's were one of the REAL motorcycles that offered REAL performance! Believe me when you ride one of these around, peole stop you all the time to share stories of when they were growing up etc.

Here are the carb body and bowl, all cleaned up!

One little problem, I decided to clean the steel and brass in the Works toilet bowl cleaner. This worked as planned however the choke plate was made from zinc and it disapeared in seconds. Anyone have a spare part or junked S90 carb I can get this part from?

The part is the component in the center of the carb bore shown in this picture.

Simple green & let soak on bad parts..you're using caustics on some delicate parts
I'll send an email to Ed down in San Jose but i've seen plenty on craigslist lately
widen your area search when checking

Quick tip - look for a button like this on your camera:

It will help the camera focus on close objects so that your carb parts will be in focus, not the table behind them.

Sorry but along with gathering parts, there have been some serious problems with my wifes family we must deal with so this project will be on the back burner for a while. I had planned on tearing into the engine this weekend however we will be traveling out of town to meet with other family members to give our support.

My S90 is the most reliable, fun to ride bike I own. Leave the 550-4 sit and use the S90 for Sunday rides.   http://s224.photobucket.com/albums/dd131/grumburg/?action=view&current=100_0346.jpg

I agree, yeah my 400 Four was my favorite but for fun the CL90 or S90 is just what you need for light quick rips around town
I've been thinking how to get mine over to the beach and run around..we live not far from an AWESOME beach but stretches of freeway
separates us..Thanks for the pic..i hope to follow toms progress when he's in better times ahead
